The Thinkpad L450 laptop series will come preloaded with Ubuntu 14.04 (the long term support version) which affords support and maintenance for five years from release date. They offer powerful cutting edge processing with Intel Core i3 5005U and i5 52000U processors, in addition to 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drives. The Thinkpad L450 laptop models are durable yet sleekly designed machines with stunning 14’’ HD displays.
This marks another milestone in the global adoption of Ubuntu, and is the first joint launch between Lenovo and Canonical in India – another OEM coming into the fold in a region where Ubuntu already possesses a strong foothold. The laptops will be available to purchase from selected commercial resellers and distributors throughout the region at prices starting from INR 40,000. Lenovo will be shipping Ubuntu preloaded devices starting with Thinkpad L450 laptop from early this month.

The install process went pretty smoothly, although being British I was surprised that the installer suggested I use a USA keyboard layout when I'd already told it I was in London. Feeling brave, I decided to wipe Windows off the laptop completely and installed Ubuntu instead. Once burned I transferred the CD to my Dell laptop and booted off it.

I'm too impatient to wait for a CD to arrive (and the Shipit service was down when I checked) so I downloaded an iso file on my desktop PC (which still runs Windows for the moment).Īfter a bit of playing around I managed to find a page which explains how to burn the iso file to a CD, and one about checking the validity of the file.

Apparently you can get a CD posted to you from Canonical via their Shipit service, or you can download an image of the CD from their website. The first thing I had to do was get hold of a copy of Ubuntu. I'm hoping to detail on this blog my experience so that my friends can see what I'm getting up to (and maybe help me out if I get stuck). So here I am with a Dell laptop running Ubuntu 9, connected to the internet, getting my mail and generally doing stuff you do with a laptop.
